Petit Planet Galaxies: Hexia, Norvanya, Pashah, and Taffeh Compared

Four galaxies are documented: Hexia, Taffeh, Pashah, and Norvanya. Two of them are selectable at character creation, and the choice changes terrain, crops, and which Neighbor greets you second.

Which galaxies you can choose

Character creation offers two galaxies: Hexia and Taffeh. That is the whole choice — it happens once, and it is the only decision in the game that you cannot revisit on the same planet.

Four galaxies are documented overall. Hexia and Taffeh are the selectable pair. Norvanya and Pashah appear in the resident data — Medowlyn and Frostia on Norvanya, Nerina on Pashah — but were not offered as starting options in the Final Beta. If you see a guide describing a third starting planet, it is either describing a later test build or confusing a season with a galaxy: the snowy "Muxue" content in Chinese guides is a seasonal event area, not a starting galaxy.

What actually changes when you pick

Four things, and only the last one is hard to reverse:

  • Terrain palette. Hexia leans green, Taffeh leans yellow. Both are warm and hand-painted, so the difference is a tint and a plant set rather than a different art style.
  • Signature crops and trees. Hexia grows ginkgo, bamboo, and garlic. Taffeh grows dragon's blood trees, dragon fruit, and cactus. The shop's tree seed stock follows the same split.
  • Signature cooking. Each galaxy unlocks its own dish line, which is why two players comparing recipe lists may not have the same options.
  • Your second Neighbor. The second resident is decided by the galaxy, so the opening cast differs.

What does not change is your first Neighbor. Yunguo and Isaki arrive through the main quest, which is why every player starts with the same pair regardless of planet.

Which Neighbors live where

TaffehMsafiri, HarpenoSavanna, cactus, open sky
NorvanyaMedowlyn, Frostia, RebellaCool, glow, gemstone country
PashahNerinaSea, sound, tide

The resident list is a fair proxy for the galaxy's flavour. Hexia's cast is agricultural and insect-focused, Taffeh's is exploration and patrol, Norvanya's is scholarly and craft, Pashah's is musical and coastal.

Terrain unlocks that follow the choice

Some terrain is gated rather than chosen. At Arbor level 13, the highland region opens and the tree set splits: Hexia gains cedar, Taffeh gains baobab. At level 14, each galaxy's flowering trees unlock. Glenn's shop then stocks the matching tree seeds — cedar seeds on Hexia, baobab seeds on Taffeh, plus the galaxy's basic tree seeds.

Practically, that means the first thirteen Arbor levels are identical on both planets and the visual identity of your home really arrives in the second week.

Can you visit other galaxies later?

Yes, but not by travelling to them as a planet of your own. There are two routes:

  1. Visit a friend's planet. Cross-galaxy visits are a supported social feature, and this is how you get the other galaxy's blueprints: the Taffeh main line and the Hexia main line produce different building plans, and you obtain the other one on a friend's planet.
  2. Starsea Voyage regions. Voyages reach resource regions that are not your home galaxy, including seasonal areas that open as events. That is how Taffeh players see Hexia's resources without changing planets.

Neither route lets you move your home planet. If you want to live on Taffeh, you start on Taffeh.

Do galaxy-exclusive crops and bugs exist?

Exclusive crops and trees, yes. Exclusivity here means "not sold in your shop", not "impossible to obtain": the other galaxy's seeds and saplings circulate through visits and voyages, and the recipe lines that depend on them are reachable that way.

Exclusive bugs and fish are less documented. The catch pool varies by biome and by season, and the highlands at level 13 add species. Whether any single species is hard-locked to one galaxy was not confirmed in the Final Beta, so this page does not claim it.

What changes when the season turns?

Seasons are a live system, not a palette swap. The shift from winter to spring was documented during the test and it changed four things at once: the creature gallery opened its spring entries; the flower trees on both Hexia and Taffeh gained petals that drift in the wind; trees, bushes, and ground colour lightened; and the transition cutscene changed with the season. Snowmen built during winter melted away.

One spring entry was worth planning around: a razor clam that shows up on the beach blowing bubbles, moves fast, and only lets you catch it if you approach slowly. That is a different catch rule from the usual timing-based one, and it is the kind of seasonal exception that makes a checklist useful — see the gathering guide for how the rest of the pool is gated.

The practical consequence is that a galaxy decision is permanent but a season is not. Anything gated on season comes back; anything gated on galaxy has to be reached through visits or voyages.

Does galaxy choice lock content?

No hard lock was documented. The two real costs are convenience and identity: a Taffeh player cannot buy ginkgo seeds from their own shop, and the second Neighbor they meet is fixed. Everything else — recipes, furniture, terrain features, Neighbors — can be reached through visits, voyages, and the shared Neighbor roster.

That makes the choice a matter of taste rather than optimisation. Pick the palette you want to look at every day, and the Neighbor you want to meet second. What is Petit Planet? describes how the galaxy fits into the wider loop, and the beginner guide covers the first-day consequences of the pick.

How to choose

  1. Hexia if you want bamboo, ginkgo, garlic, and an agricultural cast. It is the greener, more planted planet, and the bamboo and garlic resources feed several early recipes.
  2. Taffeh if you want open savanna, cactus, dragon fruit, and the explorer cast. The dragon fruit line gives a stronger fruit income once your farm is running.
  3. Neither is a mistake. The difference is flavour plus a handful of recipes, and both planets reach the same systems on the same Arbor schedule.

Baseline: Final Beta 0.95 (Starsea Call). Hexia and Taffeh as the selectable pair, their signature resources, and the Arbor 13–14 terrain splits come from test-period reports; Norvanya and Pashah are documented through resident data rather than as starting options.
